“Feelin’ the Irie Vibe at the Last Day Saloon” – April 16, 2012

I had a wonderful experience seeing a great reggae show performed by the Skatalites, Junior Toots w/Fyah Squad Band, and The Delierians, at the Last Day Saloon in Santa Rosa, CA, on a Monday night.

The Delierians had the crowd up and dancing in no time with their unique brand of reggae, ska, and soul music. Their raw energy, vocals, and potent horn sounds really made them a great opening act.

Up next was Junior Toots (son of Hibbert Toots, lead singer for Toots and The Maytals). He gave a phenomenal performance, and his singing & dancing was on fyah! He was naturally energetic on stage, and always promotes positivity in his music. I’ve actually seen him perform 6 times in the last month. Talk about a real crowd pleaser!!!

The headline group was the Skatalites, who spiced-up the stage with their mild rhythmic & syncopated sounds, accented by a dynamic horn section. This veteran band has been around since the 50’s and 60’s, and their roots are from Jamaica. The Skatalites always seem to get better and better, and for me they are timeless! My favorite song of the night was “Balls of Fire.”

I had so much fun at the Last Day Saloon, because of the great people, tight vibes, and of course, the packed house!
